Hot Again Today... A Windy Weekend Expected 5/24/12

Thermal ridging is still holding strong across the area today. After a start in the 70’s for most this morning, expect a hot afternoon. Highs will climb to around 100 for most of the Permian Basin. The Upper Trans Pecos will see highs in the 100 to 105 range. It appears that smoke from fires in northern Mexico and SW New Mexico will drift into West Texas today, so expect a little haze from time to time. Winds will be out of the WSW at 15-20 mph.

The weather pattern begins to shift on Friday as the ridge breaks down. Moisture will surge back into the area on the heels of strong southerly wind. It appears that the dryline will develop and back all the way up to the mountains, allowing most of West Texas to remain in the moist sector. With this in mind, temperatures are forecast to be much cooler. There will also be a chance of isolated showers and storms this weekend. The winds will not be isolated though. Windy to very windy conditions are expected Saturday and Sunday. Those with plans for the lake this holiday weekend should take caution. The water will be very choppy.

A series of storms will drop out of the Pacific Northwest next week, sending bits of energy our way. With this in mind, I will mention the possibility of thunderstorms next week. However, it’s still a bit too early to pin down the exact when and where at this time. The only thing certain is that the overall weather pattern is suggestive of rain for parts of West Texas.
