Local Man Battling Cancer 7/31/10

Wayne Tull has long been an active member of the Odessa community. He has been battling kidney cancer for the past 5 years.

Wayne is now in a wheel chair, paralyzed from the waist down. His daughter-in-law Melissa Brazeal says the cancer holds him back from doing the things he loves the most.

"He’s not able to go watch the kids sports and he’s not able to come to our family BBQs or birthday parties..."

Wayne worked as a supervisor in the oilfield for BJ Coiltech for 9 years prior to the disease, but now he’s been out of work for over 2 years. His step-son Robert Brazeal says he was dedicated to his work and now he’s struggling with not being able to provide for his family.

"Just not being able to do things...work was a big part of his life."

Robert says his stepfather is a giving man who loved reaching out to his community.

"Hed give you the shirt off his back, always been there to help anyone he can."

His family is putting on a fundraiser next weekend to help with medical expenses...in hopes of giving back to a man, they say, has done so much for them.

"He was always giving to everybody and done for everybody...I just want to do something to give back to them."

The fundraiser for Wayne Tull is next Saturday, the 7th, starting at noon at Becky Sams in Odessa. There will be barbeque plates, raffles, a live auction, a DJ and karaoke.

Also, they will be raffling a custom built BBQ pit for $5 a ticket. Tickets are available now.

For more information concerning tickets, the BBQ Pit, donations for the auction or to make a monetary donation contact Melissa Brazeal at 432-202-0722.
