HOUSTON - The release of a Houston man exonerated by DNA tests of a rape for which he has spent 27 years in prison is being delayed by one day.
Forty-four-year old Michael Anthony Green had been set to get a bond during a court hearing Thursday. But his attorney, Bob Wicoff, said officials decided to delay Green's release by one day because he became upset while waiting in a holding cell. Wicoff declined to say how Green got upset but that it would be better if he was given one more day to compose himself.
Green's family members were upset by the delay.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office says new DNA tests show Green did not commit a 1983 rape of a woman who was taken by several men from a pay telephone just north of Houston.
