Sad news for major league baseball today as one of the most dynamic and hands on owners has passed away.
Yankees owner George Steinbrenner died around 6:30 Tuesday morning from a massive heart attack.
Steinbrenner bought the Yankees from CBS in 19-73 making his ownership the longest in Yankees history.
During his reign as the Yankees owner the Bronx Bombers won eleven pennants and seven World Series titles.
Since 2006 Steinbrenner had spent most of his time in Tampa Bay Florida leaving his sons Hank and Hal to run the Yankees.
Midland native Randy Velarde played for Steinbrenner, we got an exclusive interview with the former Yankee via telephone.
